The purpose of IB World Wednesday is to share information about the IB Learners profile and how our students incorporate them into the eight subject groups. Over the first semester, we have shared each IB Learner Profile Trait. Now we will review the eight subject groups. They are:

  1. Language acquisition
  2. Language and literature
  3. Individuals and societies
  4. Sciences
  5. Mathematics
  6. Arts
  7. Physical and health education
  8. Design

Today, we are highlighting Individuals and Societies. This subject group incorporates disciplines traditionally studied in the humanities, as well as disciplines in the social sciences. Students collect, describe and analyze data used in studies of societies, test hypotheses, and learn how to interpret complex information, including original source material.

This focus on real-world examples, research, and analysis is an essential aspect of the subject group.

Individuals and Societies encourage learners to respect and understand the world around them and equip them with the necessary skills to inquire into historical, contemporary, geographical, political, social, economic, religious, technological, and cultural factors that have an impact on individuals, societies, and environments.
