Today's Tuesday Teacher is Mr. Mackinzie! Mr. Mackinzie is a graduate of UC Davis, and teaches 8th Grade Sciences (IAPS).

Why did you become a teacher?

Teaching can be a pretty fulfilling, challenging, and entertaining career. I also really missed having summers off.

What are your goals in teaching your students? What do you hope to achieve?

I don't expect my students to remember all of the stuff that I teach them. My goal is to improve their critical thinking skills so that they can overcome the challenges they face in life. Aside from that, I hope they find my class somewhat interesting and enjoyable.

What is your favorite quote and why?

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss.

I think it's great advice, especially for middle school.

If there was one thing you could tell your 13-year-old self, what would it be?

In a few years, start paying a little more attention to politics. I know being an informed voter sounds super boring, but it's one of the most important things you can do to improve people's lives.
