This Tuesday's Teacher spotlight is on Mrs. Corder, IB Coordinator and Sciences Head. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and Saint Leo University.

What are your goals in teaching your students? What do you hope to achieve?

One of my favorite books is Mindset by psychologist Carol Dweck. I have gifted this book many times and used it to guide students, parents, teachers, and my children. "In a growth mindset, challenges are exciting rather than threatening. So rather than thinking, oh, I'm going to reveal my weaknesses, you say, wow, here's a chance to grow."; this quote by Dr. Dweck is a perfect lesson for all of our IB MYP students! I was thrilled to meet with Dr. Dweck at Stanford University, and to share how impactful her research has been on my career as an educator.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love to work in the garden, kayak, and explore with my family.

What are some fun facts about you that others might not know?

  • I was born in Lima, Peru SA.
  • I have been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 37 years.
  • We have two grown sons that were IB students. Greg went to Hillsborough IB and is now a Scientist at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Nathan went to Williams IB and is now a Composer working on his PhD at Berkeley - University of California.
