This Tuesday's Teacher spotlight is on Ms. McGuinness! Ms. McGuinness is Walker's 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade AVID teacher and Coordinator. A graduate of USF (Bachelors) University of Tampa (Masters), Ms. McGuinness has been teaching thirteen years, and this is her tenth at Walker.
What are your goals in teaching your students? What do you hope to achieve?
My goals for my students is that they feel happy to learn what I have for them when they walk into my classroom.
What is your favorite quote and why?
Keep it moving. If what we are doing is hindering our progress, then we need to change the subject and move on.
What is your fondest memory in your years of teaching at Walker Middle Magnet?
Gosh there are so many. My fondest would probably be the first time I walked into the cafeteria and hollered, "AVID!" and all the kids shouted back, "Rocks!"
If there was one thing you could tell your 13-year-old self, what would it be?
Everything is going to be okay.
What are 2 or 3 fun facts about you that your students and / or co-workers might not know?
I won 2 gold medals in the Sunshine State Games for synchronized swimming.
I attended five colleges.
